Radica Raeves, T/as The Mindful Dog, acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians of the land, seas and rivers of Australia. The Cammeraygal peoples of the Eora nation, on whose land we now stand. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders, past and present, and aspire to learn from traditional knowledge and customs, so that, together, we can protect our environment and cultural heritage through law.
Harsh handling by means of mental or physical intimidation, force or physical punishment, is not permitted during our puppy training classes,
nor during our private dog training sessions.
This type of human behaviour will be discouraged, by educating dog owners, handlers and guardians, on the effectiveness of less invasive and less aversive training techniques, based on scientific disciplines, such as applied behaviour analysis.
Your instructor, Radica Raeves CPDT-KA T/as The Mindful Dog, adheres to Steven R. Lindsay’s “Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive” principle, also referred to as the L.I.M.A principle. This scientifically based training principle is supported by the following, leading industry bodies:
All puppies and dogs attending our Puppy School classes and Private Dog Training sessions, need to be up-to-date with their vaccinations, specific for their age group.
Puppies attending PUPPY I Class and Puppy Play Dates, need to have had at least their 1st puppy booster vaccination to protect against Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus (= C3 DHP), at least one week prior to attending group sessions.
Puppies attending PUPPY II Class need to have had at all 3 puppy booster vaccinations (C5 = C3 DHP + annual “Kennel Cough” vaccines for Bordetella, Parainfluenza).
All adult dogs booked for private training sessions, or attending dog training classes and Real Dog Yoga classes, need to be up-to-date with their C5 vaccinations.
Your instructor will request to see a copy of your puppy or dog’s most recent vaccination certificate prior to commencing class.
Please note: We do not consider homeopathic nosodes an acceptable alternative to conventional vaccines for young puppies or dogs. We do however accept a written confirmation by your Veterinarian with regards to a recent titre test (min. 14 days prior to class start date) that your dog is currently still adequately immunised as per the commonly required C5 vaccines.
Your puppy or dog also should have received regular and timely parasite treatments for worms, fleas and ticks. This is for the safety of your puppy or dog, and others; therefore no exceptions can be made. You will be requested to present a copy of your puppy or dog’s most recent vaccination certificate; prior to entering class.
If a puppy or dog is unable to attend classes, owners are more than welcome to attend without their dog, in order to keep up to date with the training course.
Please DO NOT bring your puppy or dog to group class if he or she has:
Training equipment REQUIRED during puppy classes or private dog training sessions:
Our puppy and dog training class programs are designed to be attended in chronological order (Session 1, Session 2, Etc.), rather than a roll-on/roll-off programme or random attendance. Therefore, missed classes cannot be taken by joining another group run by your instructor at another time, as there may not be a spot available, and it is always disruptive to the other group to have an unfamiliar puppy join half-way through the course. For optimum results, please try to attend all your class sessions and complete your course in chronological order.
Occasionally, we may find that a class environment does not suit a puppy or owner. Full discussion over the best way to proceed will be undertaken and this may result in us making alternative arrangements to assist you.
To make the most of the classes and achieve optimal results, short daily training sessions at home are favourable to allow you and your puppy to practice the techniques and lessons prior to the next class.
The minimum required enrolments per group class or puppy play date is 3.
In the event the enrolment minimum is not met - either due to insufficient enrolments at least 3 days prior to the start of your class, or due to last-minute cancellations from attendees within 3 days prior to the start of class - your instructor will provide you with the following options:
Radica Raeves CPDT-KA, T/as The Mindful Dog, does not restrict the number of family members that are allowed to attend puppy school classes and puppy play dates (the more the merrier) and children are more than welcome. However, all children must be under the supervision of a responsible adult, who must agree to prevent them from disturbing the process of learning during the class. Children under the age of 5 may attend only if a second adult also attends, in order to enable one adult to concentrate on the child and the other on the puppy. We encourage older children to attend our puppy school classes and puppy play dates, as we consider this to be in the best interest of all puppies attending. Young people under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and should not be left to bring the dog to classes on their own. Instructors reserve the right to request that disruptive children, adults or dogs not attend future classes.
Puppies of any dog breed or cross-breed are welcome to join our puppy training classes and puppy play dates.
Class and playgroup sizes are kept small, in order to provide individual tuition and a relaxed learning environment (e.g. 6 puppies max. / puppy class).
Our PUPPY I and PUPPY II Classes, as well as our Puppy Play Dates, are designed to be fun and rewarding for both dog and owner; and in the interest of safety, responsibility and welfare it is important that the following terms and conditions, specific to Puppy School and Puppy Play Dates are noted:
